An innovative network of 541 doctors who are providing free health care services through a West Bloomfield program called Project Chessed that offers free health care for low-income qualifying
Jewish patients ages 19-64, by referring patients to participating doctor's offices and to 15 hospitals
who have agreed to provide care including tests and surgery. The program has provided everything from basic services to cancer treatment and heart bypass operations. Every member is assigned a primary care physician and has access to routine care. This is NOT a Medicare supplement program!

Under the plan, a non-profit agency will receive federal money for the program to help county residents
18 to 64 years old and without children who have an income of less than 35% of the federal poverty
level--or about $250 to $300 a month. Residents who qualify for the program (approx. 3,400) will get a letter from the Michigan Department of Community Health that will allow them to get an insurance card. The county is hoping to expand on the program to others.
