FUNERAL ASSISTANCE:
Metro Detroit Share provides funeral assistance
for Michigan families that lose a baby during preg-
nancy or during the 1st year of life. Services such
as burial costs, funeral service costs, urns, head-
stones, etc. will be considered. Assistance subject
to availability of funds and the exhaustion of other
available resources

Metro Detroit Share runs twice per month support
meetings. One in Taylor and one in West Bloomfield.
In addition, Metro Detroit Share runs a closed Face-
book group for online support.

MEMORY BOXES:
Metro Detroit Share provides memory boxes to any
Michigan hospital that requests them for their pat-
ients. We also provide direct to families that didn't
get anything from the hospital. Included is a special

Bi-Weekly program sessions begin with families, staff
and volunteers sharing a meal, providing an opportunity
for fellowship and bonding. Afterwards, the children and
teens are placed in age-appropriate groups where they
meet for activities such as discussions, art, music, play
and writing. A designated area called the Volcano Room
allows children and teens a place to safely release the
physical feelings of grief. An adult support group is
offered concurrently.

SandCastles Camp is an annual, overnight, weekend-
long camp experience for children and teens that
have experienced the death of someone close to them.
The camp weekend is offered free of charge and facili-
tated by professional staff specializing in grief as well
as trained volunteers from SandCastles Grief Support
Program. Grief is a normal, natural response to death,
and individuals who are supported in their loss are able
to heal in additional ways. Camp offers that support.

Survivors of Homicide Support Group
This free 10-week program uses structured topics
and guest speakers to provide support for those
facing the loss of a loved one due to homicide.This
group usually meets 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
This is a closed group after the second session, so
prior registration helps ensure cohesiveness.

that allow children to interact with peers who have
suffered similar loss and to express their fears, an-
ger, guilt, and sadness in a secure and empowering
environment. Utilization of music, art, story telling,
writing, and play promotes the healing process.

Clinicians and trained volunteers, supervised by pro-
fessional clinical staff, facilitate age-appropriate groups
for preschool/kindergarten, early elementary, upper ele-
mentary, middle school, high school, and young adults
(at some locations.) These age divisions ensure that peer
groups are run in an age- and developmentally-appropriate
manner and that children are engaged by and with others
of a similar level of understanding of death and the serious
topics death generates.

term, solution focused therapy designed for the specific
