The first step to receiving a computer is to write a letter to our organization fully explaining
why you cannot afford a computer and how a computer will benefit you  (the student, family
or non-profit organization).  Your letter can be hand-written or typed and must be at least half
a page long.  Please write clearly and legibly.

The next step is to bring your letter and pick up your computer at the Giveaway Center
above.  We accept tax-deductible minimum donations of $125.00 for desktops/towers
and $150.00 for Laptops (while they last).  Everyone has to contribute something to receive
a computer.  We are a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers.  Your tax-deductible donation is our main source of taking care of our expenses and administrative fees.  Your
donation also helps us help other families the same way other families before helped you.
Each computer comes with a Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, Sound Card, high-speed Internet
ready, Optical CD-R Drive, Word Processor, Anti-Virus protection, Anti-SpyWare, USB port, etc.

Website:  www.direct.ed.gov
There are options to postpone making payments, such as deferring student loans if you're
jobless, in school at least half-time, taking a parental leave from work or you're in the armed
services or Peace Corps.  In a deferrment, the payments stop and the federal government
pays the interest on subsidized loans but interest continues to accrue on unsubsidized loans.

Website:  www.ed.gov/directloan
You may be able to request forbearance is you can't qualify for a deferment but interest
does build while in forebearance even though payments aren't required.

Income-based repayment is available for all federal loans, not just direct loans.  Not every
lender offers it so borrowers who want it and know their lender doesn't offer it can consolidate
