FOR FOSTER FAMILIES ONLY!
Downriver Foster Closet
12311 Reeck
Southgate, MI 48195
Phone: 734-493-6764
The Downriver Foster closet right now collects donations for gently used children’s clothing
and items they would need daily for children that are in the foster care system. We provide all
downriver foster families with items they may need for a placement. Most of the kids that come
into care come with nothing or very little. Right now, we are a new non-profit just starting out,
our future goal is to have our own store front. The goal would be to have a nice store that the
kids felt welcome and safe, we see our storefront having a nice play area for families that have
more than one kid and while looking for clothes the kids can play. We also would like to hold
weekly classes for foster parents to help with their kid’s hair care, or support groups. We also
would love to give a few foster kids downriver a scholarship to help them with school or grants
we can give to families who have kids who want to be involved in sports and they may not be
able to pay out of pocket for it.

OUR VISION
Our vision has allowed us to expand our outreach to 44 of the
83 counties in Michigan providing services and support to foster
children and their foster family and grandchildren being raised
by their grandparents. In Michigan, there are more grandparents
raising grandchildren than there are foster children. The services
for this sector are deficient, as often these families do not qualify
for any assistance. Our vision is to ensure that all foster children
and children raised by their grandparents are not overlooked or
forgotten.
Foster Closet of Michigan / 23 branches throughout Michigan!
Phone: 800-554-4966
Our organization provides clothing, underclothing, toys,
shoes, baby equipment, gear and in some cases furniture,
to children placed in the foster care system in State of MI.
These items are new and like new items that have been
donated to us. Children are often placed into foster care
with no personal items and in many cases they come into
care with only the clothes on their back. Our organization
provides these kids with stylish new or like new clothing
and personal items helping to begin the process of rebuild-
ing their self-esteem and providing them with belongings
they can call their own. Foster parents and their children
are able to come into our facilities and pick out the items
they need, for free, providing the children with the ability
to offer input in wardrobe choices and allowing them to
express their personal tastes and individuality, another
big step in helping these children rebuild their lives and
self-esteem. Our organization never charges for these
services or items. Contact them directly! Wayne, Monroe,
Macomb and Oakland & Washtenaw Counties!

Judson Center works with biological families to strengthen
them by reducing any barriers, so that their children can

STUDENT LOAN & SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
A comprehensive list of private and public sources of scholarships.
The Student Financial Aid Office for the State of Michigan has
information on scholarships and grants on its website above
OR call 888-447-2687.
Wayne State University has a list of federal, state, institutional
and private scholarships.
At this site, you have a direct link to the National Student Loan
Database System for Students to find a list of all federal loans
made to you.
There are options to postpone making payments, such as deferring
student loans if you're jobless, in school at least half-time, taking
a parental leave from work or you're in the armed services or Peace
Corps. In a deferrment, the payments stop and the federal government
pays the interest on subsidized loans but interest continues to accrue
on unsubsidized loans.
You may be able to request forbearance is you can't qualify
for a deferment but interest does build while in forbearance
even though payments aren't required.
Income-based repayment is available for all federal loans, not
just direct loans. Not every lender offers it so borrowers who
want it and know their lender doesn't offer it can consolidate
into the Direct Loan Program to get it.
For information on the total and Permanent Disability discharge
for federal education loans, your disability has to be permanent
in nature, preventing you from working to qualify.
